There is no doubt that America’s youth are impressionable. Flash a little money, or something material, and they might do anything for you. Pepper in a little selective religion and spicy segregation, and they’ll do your bidding without much thought. It’s hard to argue against a man in a suit holding up the “Word of God.”
American History X is a great movie that illustrates what can happen when a young man goes astray under the influence of a misguided purpose meant to use him, not benefit him. When we’re young, we think we’re invincible, until we find out we aren’t and the ideals of those who tricked us reveal themselves too late.
In Florida, there was a shooting that injured 12 people by a 15-year-old. In Oregon, another teenager walked in and killed four, setting the record for the youngest to ever die in a school shooting. And not too far from home, a teenager stopped traffic and jumped to his death from an overpass.
It is like those Hispanic kids wearing KKK garb in El Paso, chanting racism, thinking it’s funny, but is it?
Unfortunately, what we are doing to our youth these days is not funny. We use their energy to do our bidding, against their best interests. We are throwing them away because we can make more children. Concluding that they must be here to entertain us. Allowing them to get dirty for us while we stay clean. No, what we are doing to our youth these days is not funny at all. It’s irresponsible.
